This verse is a great verse to memorize, and it has been my prayer for a long time. I always want to be thinking, working, speaking, and acting in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. I believe if we are continually cognizant of this goal – our actions, thoughts, and words will be more aligned with the will of God.

Often times the message many Churches bring to the congregation is that love is the most important thing. Disregarding anything that doesn’t immediately sound loving. While our actions are not addressed because that sounds “legalistic”.

While having love towards God, others, and ourselves is extremely important – how can we live out a Godly life? What does this message look like in practice? Oftentimes, the parishioners are left to fend for themselves when trying to determine what it means to love God and others. Which can lead to a lot of straying from the scriptures in terms of character and actions.

The Torah is our standard and our guide. It is our actions that prove that we are loving- which starts by trying to do the will of God – doing the commandments, praying, and meditating on the Word of God.

Deuteronomy 10: 12 – 13:

“And now Israel, what does the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, and to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul; 13 to keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and his ordinances, all that I charge thee to-day, that it may be well with thee?”

In order to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, we need to continually meditate on His Word and to do His commandments. By doing these things we will be living a life pleasing before the Lord who is our helper and redeemer. Shalom.
