Line a 9 x 13 pan with parchment paper, so the rice crispy treats don’t stick to the pan.
In a large pot melt one stick of unsalted butter on medium heat. Add in the marshmallows. Stir frequently to prevent the marshmallows from burning. Cook until the marshmallows are almost melted, 5 - 7 minutes.
When the marshmallows are almost melted take the pot off the heat, then mix in the vanilla extract and the salt.
Stir in the rice crispy cereal, then immediately pour it into the parchment paper-lined pan. Spread the Rice Krispie treat mixture out evenly.
Allow them to cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting.

* The amount of rice crispy cereal depends on how marshmallowy or how crunchy you want your Rice Krispie Treats to be. 6 cups of cereal = more marshmallows. 7 cups of cereal = more crunchy and fewer marshmallow chunks.Homemade Rice Krispie Treats can be stored in an airtight container for 3 - 5 days.
